Is tithing for us today?

Inspired by the claim that the rest of us Richmond preachers are wrong for teaching that believers are supposed to tithe today, I wanted to give believers at least one New Testament scripture to back it, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, paid tithes through Abraham – Heb. 7:9. One listener did call in, but he couldn’t satisfy the challenge of the radio preacher to find one scripture in the New Testament to validate that tithing was still in affect today. (more…)

Seeing Jesus clearly

And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Acts 9:3 – 6

Recently in Sunday School, the question was asked, How could Saul know so assuredly that this was Jesus? None of us in the class really knew the answer. Prophetic Accountability

You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?" If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him. Deut. 18:21, 22

Speaking on the subject of whether or not a prophet is true, we often refer to the Old Testament litmus test above, did what the prophet say come to pass? We know further from the New Testament that every word out of the prophet's mouth should be judged (1 Cor. 14:29). What do we judge the prophecy by? Every thing should always be judged by the Word of God. Notice the agreement with the Spirit and the Word in these verses:

For there are three that bear record in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and these three agree in one. 1 John 5:7, 8

There is another part of the Old Testament prophet validity test that we often overlook, and one that we must implement today if we are to stay on track. (more…)
